For our Software Engineering course, our team of 5 students wanted to build something meaningful for elementary school students. We came up with TypeQuest - a typing game with three main components: the main TypeQuest game, Unscramble as one minigame, and Treasure Hunt as another. We built it using React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and Redis for the backend. I took on the Product Owner role, which meant I was responsible for the product backlog, sprint planning, and task assignment. I also managed the GitHub repository and handled all the deployment and hosting on Vercel. As Product Owner, I pushed for advanced features like multiplayer functionality and AI-generated assets to make the game more aesthetically pleasing and engaging. Beyond product management, I designed the entire project architecture with Next.js 16 in mind, created the initial Figma designs, and established the file structure and code organization around reusable components and modules. The project wasn't without challenges - we dealt with teammates who ghosted us and had to navigate merge conflicts, but leading this project and winning the Best Project Award in the entire Software Engineering course taught me invaluable lessons about leadership, team communication, and successful agile development. My favorite part was presenting the project at the end and demonstrating the multiplayer functionality - seeing everyone's reactions when multiple players could compete in real-time was incredibly rewarding!
